Installing A New Heat Pump In Earlysville, VA

Installing A New Heat Pump In Earlysville, VAAmelia schedules HVAC service for her system every 6 months, and keeps her air conditioning and heating systems in great condition. Unfortunately, in her previous few service visits, the technician noticed her system was losing efficiency, and she needed more freon to keep the system working.

Freon isn’t used as much as it used to be, due to the fact that it became banned in the U.S. in 2020, and is no longer imported or produced. The company who serviced her system didn’t use freon anymore, and recommended that she consider a replacement.

Amelia called the Otter Guys after a close friend recommended us, something we can’t tell you how much we appreciate. We had installed their hot water heater and HVAC system, and she told Amelia to give us a ring. She was concerned that  winter was on the way, she wanted a system that could take care of both her heating and cooling, and wanted to get it taken care of quickly.

Deciding On A New HVAC System

We Installed A New Heat PumpTerence, one of our HVAC experts, went to visit Amelia’s home to check out her current HVAC setup and recommend an upgrade for her heating and cooling. When we recommend any solution, we don’t just tell you what we think. We explain the details of why we recommend that solution, and give you some different options.

Amelia was comforted to see that Terence had his Ipad with him, and showed her the details of what he was recommending, with facts and figures to support his solution. He thought a new Carrier heat pump would be a perfect replacement for this system that still used freon.

One of the telltale signs that you have an older HVAC system is that it still uses freon, or R-22. The U.S. banned the importation and production of freon January 1st, 2020. Now, you are still allowed to use freon if you have it currently, which some HVAC companies do. But, it’s only getting more and more expensive, until it eventually runs out. Amelia knew it was time to make the switch to a new system.

Installing An Upgraded HVAC System

The new heat pump in the home is going to be able to both heat and cool the space, and more efficiently as well. One of the complaints Amelia had about the old system was the big fluctuations in temperature. The system would power off and on, and blow huge amounts of hot and cold air at a time, until the temperature was reached. She mentioned that now the temperature is much more evenly distributed, with fewer hot and cold spots.

Now, the new HVAC system runs smoothly, maintaining the temperature. This is going to help them save money on energy bills, and also improve their home comfort.

Quieter Operation

Along with saving energy and improving the comfort, the system runs much quieter than the previous one. The air handler for the system is located in the closet next to Amelia’s bedroom. The old one was loud and annoying when she was trying to go to sleep or relax in her room. This new handler is barely noticeable. Instead of loud clangs and bangs when it turns off and on, the system runs more smoothly and consistently, without all the noise.

The Otter Guys Team

We Showed The Customer How The System WorksAmelia was also kind enough to mention the Otter Guys team. She was impressed with how everyone was focused on making her feel comfortable, and informed. Our staff is friendly, and truly cares about the customer. It’s not just another job to our team. We know how important this project is for each home. It impacts home comfort, and energy consumption for over a decade when you install a new HVAC system.

We wanted to make sure Amelia knew everything she needed to know about the new heating and cooling system, as well as how to maintain it. We showed her how to change the filter, use the thermostat, and assured her that we were still around whenever she needed us after we left.

We plan on becoming her trusted source for HVAC service, repairs, and simply there to answer any questions she may have about her new heating and cooling system. After Devin showed her the basics, she felt like she knew how to handle the air filter, and knew far more than she ever did about the old system.
